South Korean President Lee Jae Myung received a ceremonial welcome in New Delhi as he began talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on shipbuilding, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, trade, and investment. The visit comes amid global supply chain instability and economic uncertainty linked to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Lee emphasized that South Korea and India are becoming increasingly important strategic partners. Discussions are also expected to cover critical and emerging technologies, as well as cooperation aimed at promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula and across the broader region.
Energy security is a growing concern for South Korea following disruptions tied to tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. Both countries are also seeking to strengthen their 2010 economic partnership agreement, with bilateral trade rising from 14.2 billion dollars to 26.89 billion dollars in the 2024 to 2025 period.
