Israel vows to level homes in Lebanon, counter threats with 'full...

Israel has vowed to continue using full military force against what it describes as imminent threats in southern Lebanon, despite a recently agreed ten-day truce with Hezbollah. Israeli leaders said the army had been instructed to demolish structures and roads believed to be booby-trapped or used as militant outposts near the border.

Lebanese state media reported ongoing demolitions and artillery shelling in several border towns, including Bint Jbeil, Mais al-Jabal and Deir Seryan. Israel also announced the creation of a forward defence line along the border, saying its forces were working to dismantle militant infrastructure and prevent attacks on northern Israeli communities.

The ceasefire, which followed weeks of fighting that killed nearly 2,300 people in Lebanon and displaced more than a million, has prompted some residents to return to their homes. However, many remain hesitant, uncertain whether the truce will hold as military operations continue in parts of the south.

Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with the French president set to meet Lebanon’s prime minister in Paris to discuss support for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and the ceasefire. The talks come amid international criticism of Israel’s actions and calls for accountability following a deadly attack on peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.
