Daniel Kinahan, the son of Irish drug kingpin Christy Kinahan, rose through the ranks of organised crime but ultimately engineered his own downfall through a growing appetite for publicity and influence. Initially known to police as an aggressive enforcer in Dublin, he later expanded the family empire beyond drugs into gambling and international ventures, drawing the attention of authorities in Ireland, Britain and Spain. Surveillance operations over two decades painted him as a central figure in a vast cartel involved in trafficking and violence.

After relocating to Spain, Kinahan became a leading figure in the organisation’s drug operations, even overseeing paramilitary-style training for enforcers. Though major charges repeatedly failed to stick, law enforcement agencies continued building intelligence against him as gangland violence escalated, including a deadly feud that claimed numerous lives following the Regency Hotel attack in Dublin.

Seeking legitimacy and influence, Kinahan moved into professional boxing management, funding and advising prominent fighters while cultivating an image as a powerful broker in the sport. His high-profile associations, including with heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, brought unprecedented attention to his activities and intensified scrutiny of his finances and connections.

In 2022, authorities in the United States announced sanctions and a five million dollar reward for information leading to his capture, effectively ending his ambitions in sport as associates distanced themselves. After years evading justice, Kinahan was eventually detained in Dubai, facing the prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars.
