I just saw why so many people flock to this 'magical' spot each year

Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park continues to leave a profound impression on visitors, with the Field of Light installation marking its tenth anniversary and extending its stay until at least the end of 2029. Originally intended as a one-year project, the artwork now features more than 50,000 solar-powered lights spread across the desert, drawing more than 750,000 visitors since 2016. Set against the backdrop of Uluṟu, the display transforms the landscape at dusk into a sweeping canvas of colour beneath a vast night sky.

Visitors can enhance the experience with a three-course desert dinner under the stars, complete with native ingredients and guided stargazing. The nearby resort also offers additional cultural experiences, including Wintjiri Wiṟu, a powerful drone and light show developed with Aṉangu to share part of the ancient Mala story. Together, these immersive events highlight the spiritual and visual impact that makes the region a once-in-a-lifetime journey.

In Sydney, hotel dining is being redefined by Sydney Common at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park. The restaurant champions woodfire cooking with subtle Japanese influence, serving standout dishes such as dry-aged sirloin with kombu butter and refined seafood plates designed for sharing. With accessible room rates and wellness facilities upstairs, it offers the makings of a complete city escape.

Meanwhile, barbecue enthusiasts can look forward to a Texas-inspired pitmaster series in May, uniting Lennox Hastie of Firedoor and Austin-based Kareem El-Ghayesh. The four-day event will feature live-fire feasts, masterclasses and collaborative dinners, bringing bold, smoke-driven flavours to Sydney for a limited time.
