The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran's oil and petrochemical trade, targeting 15 entities and 14 vessels linked to Iran's so-called shadow fleet. This announcement came just hours after indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington ended in Oman, with both sides expressing willingness to continue talks aimed at reducing tensions over Iran's nuclear program. Iranian officials described the discussions as constructive, noting that concerns and interests were exchanged in a positive atmosphere, and further consultations are planned.
The sanctions are part of a renewed pressure campaign, seeking to curb Iran's illicit exports and address broader regional issues. Recent months have seen heightened military activity, including US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and increased American military presence in the region. Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, tensions remain high, with incidents at sea and continued disagreements over the scope of future negotiations.
